September is back to school and for many, back to a more structured schedule. This is why we also choose September as our ‘push-up challenge’ month.
Push-ups are a great exercise – “Push-ups work the triceps, pectoral muscles, and shoulders. When done with proper form, they can also strengthen the lower back and core by engaging (pulling in) the abdominal muscles. Push-ups are a fast and effective exercise for building strength.”
But another benefit of doing push-ups is the mental toughness it can bring. Feeling tired? Feeling stressed? Drop and do some push-ups – do them until your arms feel like lead and then you will feel a wave of endorphins kick in and give you energy to confront your challenges.
During our push-up challenge month, each student gets a card to record the number of push-ups they do each day. Prizes are awarded if students do push-ups every day as well as for significant improvement over their baseline at the start of the month.
